Tristan Fowkes, a young DJ from Ocean View started his DJing career between the age of 12 and 13, and later went on to learning how to produce music. To him music is an active part of his life.

Music is and means everything to me, it has grown as part of who I am and what I know

Through his music he tries to relay a positive message and create a sense of joy, happiness, and fulfilment.  To him music allows people to come together and have a good time.

When you’re playing for a crowd, and you see the crowd enjoying themselves. Seeing all that happening is a different experience on its own, one that words cannot explain.”

His music granted him the opportunity to perform at Cape Town’s top night clubs alongside some of South Africa’s best DJ’s and artists. His late father plays a major role in why he became a DJ “A lot of my inspiration comes from my late father and to get the best out of what he has taught me” He is also inspired by people round him and how they experience music. His creative process is all dependent on his mood, and how he is feeling at that given time.

What I can say is that in my process, my goal is to create a steady flow throughout my set. My sets are set up to gradually build up to end off just as good as I started.”

He advises the youth of ocean view by saying “ Nothing comes easy in life, put in the work, time and effort. Strive for longevity instead of seeking instant success. Follow your dreams and motivate yourself to get to where you want to be because in whatever you do, you remain constant, and people come and go. Remain humble, your time will come and what is due to you will be yours just trust the process and God.”
