“ I am Ashie B. A 27 year old female rapper from the 7945. I was always just a singer, all I did was sing everywhere I went. Couldn’t do a thing without music. Found my love for rap in 2010 when I jumped in on a recording session with some of the guys in the hood. It was my first attempt at rap and I went straight in freestyling. That very moment changed everything for me. I remember performing at a talent show in 2007 singing Big Girls Don’t Cry by Fergie (a capella) and won first place. That experience was everything to me but when I started rapping in clubs I knew that’s what it was for me. Music over all is just soul soothing. I released a video called ASHES last year which is based on my life along side some other tracks called Without You, Third Eye etc.
Music is my therapy, it keeps me alive”

“My name is Ké-Dee Leigh Gordan and I go by my stage name DJ Krazy K. I always had a love and passion for music. I’m a pianist and an organist in church. I started DJing at the age of 13. I was taught by a friend of my mom. I never really thought about taking DJing seriously. To me DJing was just a hobby that I enjoyed doing. It got serious when I entered a high school DJ search competition for the DSTV festival and I won the competition. I was the only girl amongst the boys. I then got to meet DJ Portia and DJ Ron X-Rated who helped me on this industry. I did my first radio debut on the Dr. Jules’s show Drs in the house in June 2019 and from then I got made a resident DJ on the show. I’m really still an upcoming DJ and I still got a lot more to learn in this industry but I’m on the right path now and enjoying every moment of it. “

“Young, Grateful and Brown

I am a scribe, I’ve been inlove with words since I memorised Wordsmith’s Daffodils as a laaitie. I was exposed to Word-Sound-Power and instantly knew I wanted to be a storyteller. My parents’ eclectic taste set the foundation for my love of song and by age seven, I was writing and performing original concerts. The joy I find in being in front of an audience is a reminder from my child self I am magic.

After circumstances lead to me leaving university, I was inspired to focus on developing my natural talents. Choosing words for fusing my confusions, muses and substance abuse with music has been my path since being introduced to the 021 creative realm in 2016.

A brief domicile in Hip Hop saw me become the foremost QWOC to compete in and dominate a local battle rap league. Being on stage and in studio with esteemed artists like Jill Levenberg and Jitsvinger also added to making my stay a most pleasurable one.

My creative expression has become synonymous with protest and invites to add to queer academic spaces has seen my words endeavour to write the kind of world I want to create in. “
